3 Time-Saving Results of Using SAP HANA with SAP NetWeaver BW

Gain an understanding of how using SAP HANA as part of SAP NetWeaver BW may reduce the time IT and your system spend on data loading, maintenance, and modeling.
Key Concept

In-memory optimized objects, including InfoCubes and DataStore Objects, are representations of storing SAP NetWeaver BW data that is tailored for SAP HANA. In-memory optimized objects allow for faster data loading, simplified data modeling, and more rapid data remodeling.

Traditionally, most of the cost associated with managing and maintaining a data warehouse has been in the time and staffing it takes for IT departments to manage the business warehouse environment. With SAP HANA, IT departments can save time on the management and maintenance of SAP NetWeaver BW. This results in potential cost savings through reduction in expensive operational tasks (e.g., indexing and tuning), increased loading performance, simplified maintenance, and greater modeling flexibility. I elaborate on these points below.

Hi,

Thanks for an insightful article Mr. Darji. I have a question regarding taking advantage of the mentioned capabilities. How much code re-write and remodeling is required to take full advantage of in-DB calculations? I mean, what all objects we have to re-create/change and what changes are required for taking advantage of HANA on BW? Currently, we are on 7.0 on Oracle and planning for 7.4 upgrade with HANA.

I will really appreciate your inputs.

Thanks,
Abhishek
