Streamline Communications During a Period-End Closing via Email Notifications in the SAP Financial Closing Cockpit

Learn how to enable email notifications in the SAP Financial Closing Cockpit for various scenarios, including release of a task list to have an integrated approach in period-end closing. Key Concept
The SAP Financial Closing Cockpit is a standard SAP tool to monitor and control the entire period-end closing cycle.

Many organizations now use the SAP Financial Closing Cockpit for making the period-end closing activity faster and more integrated. Users process the task list for each period-end closing from the template defined in the SAP Financial Closing Cockpit. There can be many events for which communication is needed during period-end closing (e.g., when the task list is released, the task becomes overdue, the prerequisite task is completed, and the processor of the next task is to be notified). Generally, these communications are handled via manual email or calls and thus are prone to a delayed response and lack of streamlined integration. I provide you with an overview of various standard SAP scenarios in which you can design the system to automatically trigger the emails in such events during a period-end closing. Apart from pre-delivered events, businesses also have flexibility to define their own scenarios or to enhance the various functionalities via the Business Add-In (BAdI) implementation, which I also cover.

This email notification feature is available from the SAP Financial Closing Cockpit Add-On (version 1.0 and higher). This SAP Financial Closing Cockpit Add-On can also be installed on SAP ERP Central Component (ECC) 6.0 (Enhancement Pack 4.0 and higher), so keep in mind your SAP landscape before going ahead with the solutions mentioned in the article.
