Learning Objectives

By reading this article, you’ll learn how to:

  • Configure workflows for Events Reasons
  • Configure workflows for Generic Objects
  • Administer workflows
Key Concept

In the SuccessFactors Employee Central system, a workflow is a sequence of connected steps that allows approval by or notification to individuals of changes to data within the system. It enables specific data changes to be subject to an approval process involving one or more individuals, either as Approvers, Contributors, or recipients of the workflow activity. Workflows are typically used in transactions (such as employee hires, promotions, organizational reassignments, or terminations) or when changing data in Manager Self-Service (MSS) and Employee Self-Service (ESS) scenarios.

As with SAP ERP HCM, companies using SuccessFactors Employee Central need to manage data changes, data governance, and permissions with workflows. In SuccessFactors Employee Central, workflows provide an approval and notification mechanism for events that are triggered in the system. Events may be triggered for a number of different reasons, and a workflow can be created and triggered for each Event Reason. Workflows can also be triggered by Generic Objects such as Time Off Objects, Position Objects, and customer-specific objects using rules.

Note
The SuccessFactors Employee Central system also enables you to add workflows when important personal information changes are made for an employee, such as name or dependents’ information. Workflows can also be added to Generic Objects created in the Metadata Framework. Within the SuccessFactors system a workflow is a Foundation Object called a Workflow Configuration.
