Learn how to successfully execute an enhancement package installation combined with year-end Support Packages without automated testing tools in a complex system landscape. Learn how to minimize the need for consulting and reduce system downtime.

The University of Kentucky is the Commonwealth’s flagship institution with 17 colleges and more than 27,000 students. The Chandler Medical Center provides state-of-the-art health care to the residents of Kentucky, and more than 12,000 full-time employees support the University’s institutional mission.

The University began its SAP journey in 2004, with a phased implementation. The first module went live in 2005, with the HR modules following in April 2006. It seemed like we were behind schedule as soon as we went live. Almost immediately we began planning an upgrade from SAP R3/4.72 to SAP ERP Central Component (SAP ECC) 6.0, enhancement package 3. That upgrade occurred in December 2007. Of course, we also had to fit in the year-end Support Packages for our SAP ERP HCM system and still keep moving forward with new functionality. I’m sure this sounds familiar to users who have undergone similar implementations. We went through our second upgrade (to enhancement package 4) in 2009. Our latest upgrade in December 2011 combined enhancement package 5 with the year-end Support Packages for SAP ERP HCM.
