Learn how the new Solution Documentation in SAP Solution Manager 7.2 affects the configuration and administration of Change Request Management (ChaRM) and what to address when upgrading existing ChaRM functionality.
Learning Objectives

Reading this article you will learn:

  • The role of Solution Documentation branches in Change Control Management with release 7.2
  • The transition to new cycles for Change Request Management (ChaRM)
  • How to handle active ChaRM content during an upgrade to version 7.2
  • The mapping of old-to-new transaction codes for project and change management administration
  • The introduction of new ChaRM tools such as the Administration Cockpit and release planning tool
  • The need to repair existing Z-change transaction types

Key Concept

Change Request Management (ChaRM) with SAP Solution Manager requires several major changes to remain active after the upgrade to version 7.2. Some of the changes are addressed with content-preparation and content-activation activities provided by SAP, and some need to be adjusted manually to preserve all active ChaRM content.

The new version 7.2 of Solution Manager introduces completely redesigned Solution Documentation; for that reason, it is seen as the biggest and most talked about topic for this upgrade. SAP Professional Journal already published an article on the topic (“Back to Basics: An Introduction to Some Key Changes in SAP Solution Manager”). < /p>

With this article, I review how the redesign of the documentation and the introduction of documentation branches affects organizations that have already implemented Release and Change Request Management (ChaRM). I show how these processes are affected and what needs to be done as part of the upgrade from 7.1 to 7.2 to achieve a smooth transition and, at the same time, to profit from the new features introduced with the redesign of Solution Documentation.

The audience for this article are primarily the experts responsible for configuring and maintaining the ChaRM tool in Solution Manager. The compares are always between version 7.1 to 7.2.
