Configuration validation is a reporting utility that helps you know the technical configuration of any SAP system either in flat-list values or in a comparison. The comparison of a group of systems against a target reference system or against predefined configuration values is the crux of the configuration validation utility.
Learning Objectives

Reading this article you will learn:

  • An end-to-end overview of the configuration validation utility for different kinds of reporting purposes
  • How to draw different configuration validation reports for regular support work for troubleshooting so that you know the exact non-compliant values among two systems (working and problem system)
  • Get the flat-list values in the areas of the operating system, database, kernel, hardware, software, notes, transports, security, and more
  • Create reports as preparation for an audit, for reviewing the current state of SAP landscape technical configuration, or for management reporting or dashboard purposes
Key Concept

Configuration validation is a utility in SAP Solution Manager for the technical configuration comparison of a reference system against a landscape. The utility is used for reporting on compliance or non-compliance parameters. It also offers the ability to create reports with a flat-list output for a given set of systems. It works on root cause analysis principles and has multiple technical configuration stores for reporting purposes in the areas of the operating system, database, kernel, notes, transports, hardware, software, security, and software packages.

Using configuration validation you can execute reports on the status of the technical configuration of different system landscapes in multiple areas such as security, databases, transports, operating systems (OSs), kernels, notes, software packages, and other technical configuration requirements. It helps to address management questions about technical configuration consistency across the landscape and the scope of cleaning to make systems consistent, if required.
