Learn how to use SAP Event Management (SAP EM) to monitor and report on events in your supply chain operations. Establish the proper level of granularity so that SAP EM output yields actionable information to enhance customer satisfaction and improve operations.

Following the implementation of SAP Event Management (SAP EM), my team and I were asked by our client to enhance our method with an integrated alerts framework. The client needed to enhance the monitoring capabilities of SAP EM by introducing alert notifications on critical business events for proactive business actions. The client also wanted to introduce a second functionality in the form of supply chain metrics measurement from SAP EM event handler data. The objective of metrics was to get trend patterns on event occurrence over time to best identify business efficiency improvement opportunities.

In my first SAPexperts article, “Case Study: How to Improve Supply Chain Procurement Visibility Using SAP Event Management,” I explained how my team and I set up a purchasing scenario in SAP EM to make our client’s system identify supply chain deviations from the original plan. In this article, I’ll highlight additional enhancements done during the project to make purchasing process monitoring more robust. I’ll also share the lessons learned during and after the SAP EM implementation. I also introduce SAP NetWeaver Business Warehouse (SAP NetWeaver BW) 7.0 integration with SAP EM 5.1 for supply chain reporting purposes. This article includes quite a few definitions. For your convenience, I have included their definitions in the “SAP Event Management Terminology” sidebar at the end of this article.
